Hi Guys - Many names I recognize throughout this guest book, and many I don't. Served in 44th EOD at Cu Chi 1969 - 1970. Wanted to make the reunion in Huntsville, but just was not possible. Looking forward to Branson next year.

It is with great sadness that I report the death of one of our contemparies Harry Beemer. Harry left us on the 4th of Dec 2008 and is survived by his wife Connie of Camden Ark. You may leave a guestbook comment on the website for Proctor Funeral Home of Camden. The big guy with a soft voice will be missed but not forgotten by the EOD Brotherhood. Great to see some pictures from the 184th and to see comments about others tours in Vietnam. I was in the 184th latter '68 and with the 42nd until Jun 69. I remember our first swim in the 184th demo pool. Brings back lots of good and otherwise memories. Will have to dig through some pics to share. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

A going away party in Viet Nam, at least in the 3rd Ord was basically just another excuse to drink for each man just sort of oozed in and out of the unit. The departing man faded away without fanfare or an organized celebration. The good-byes among comrades and friends were more sincere because the departing felt guilty about leaving their teammates with a hazardous job unfinished, while those being left behind were jealous as well as glad for the lucky soldier returning to the world. Returning to the states was a distinct moment in time that we all hoped to live long enough to achieve. It was a goal that men prayed for, a day that was counted down to with short-timer calendars and posters. And yet that day of clearing the post was a defining moment in life that we all knew would never pass again. It was a summit you had fought to reach and at the same time a low, nearly depressing unavoidable life altering event. Each man signed out of the unit to slip away alone hoping to find a new life without the aid of the closest friendship he would ever form. It was also understood no matter how many promises were made to keep in touch, that the chances of ever meeting again were slim at best. Still we exchanged addresses and shook hands reluctant to be separated from the bonding brotherhood forged by heat of danger and tempered in the waters of compassion for one another. We may have served at the pleasure of the President but not the popular vote of the people and yet we did serve. It was service out of loyalty and love of country even though many thought the cause unjust; we suffered and perished in an alien land for strange people.

Please e-mail me or Commander Rick blasterflynn@yahoo.com and let us know about you and how to get in touch with you. If you are not listed with Vietnam Vets just e-mail dctipton@cox.net to be listed. I will send you a roster. Warm Regards
